Hirono Statement on the Nomination of Neera Tanden to Serve as Director of the Office of Management and Budget

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Mazie K. Hirono (D-Hawaii) issuing the following statement after President-elect Joe Biden announced the nomination of Neera Tanden to serve as the Director of the Office of Management and Budget:

“President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris have committed to building an administration of highly-qualified individuals that reflect the diversity of our country. They continued to make good on this promise by nominating a groundbreaking economic team – including Neera Tanden who, if confirmed, would be the first woman of color and first South Asian American to serve as Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).

“Neera is a highly qualified nominee whose professional and lived experience makes her an accomplished choice to lead OMB. As someone who relied on food stamps and public housing growing up, Neera understands the transformational role and responsibility of government programs to help individuals and families across our country. I’m confident that she will focus on and support policies that address widespread inequality and promote economic opportunity for working families as OMB Director.”
