Hirono Secures More Than $200 Million for Critical Hawaii Military Construction Projects in NDAA
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Mazie K. Hirono (D-Hawaii) announced today that the Fiscal Year 2021 National Defense Authorization Act includes more than $200 million to support critical military construction projects in Hawaii. The Senate Armed Services Committee passed the legislation on a 25-2 vote.
“Military installations across Hawaii play an essential role in supporting our country’s strategic interests in the Indo-Pacific region, and it is imperative that we make necessary investments to support our military in this mission,” Senator Hirono said. “Projects authorized in this year’s NDAA will support critical infrastructure to support our men and women in uniform, and I will continue to advocate for these projects as this legislation moves through Congress.”
Military construction in Hawaii authorized in this legislation include:
· $89 million for an aircraft maintenance hangar at Wheeler Army Air Field
· $114.9 million to renovate and modernize waterfront facilities at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam to accommodate the Los Angeles (LA) and Virginia (VA) class submarines
