Hirono, Colleagues Introduce Resolution Celebrating International Transgender Day of Visibility

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Mazie K. Hirono (D-HI) joined Senator Brian Schatz (D-HI) and 18 colleagues in introducing a resolution to celebrate International Transgender Day of Visibility and recognize the achievements and courage of the transgender community around the world.

“No one should have to live in fear for simply existing as their authentic self,” said Senator Hirono. “During a time when transgender people continue to face discrimination and violence, I am proud to introduce this resolution to celebrate the bravery, resilience, and contributions of the transgender community. Today, we reaffirm our commitment to combatting hate and helping ensure all people—regardless of their identity—can feel safe in our communities and live freely with dignity and respect.”

In addition to Senators Hirono and Schatz, this resolution is cosponsored by Senators Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Cory Booker (D-NJ), Chris Coons (D-DE), Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Dick Durbin (D-IL), John Fetterman (D-PA), Ed Markey (D-MA), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Alex Padilla (D-CA), Jacky Rosen (D-NV), Adam Schiff (D-CA), Tina Smith (D-MN), Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Peter Welch (D-VT), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), and Ron Wyden (D-OR).
