Happy AANHPI Heritage Month! As we celebrate Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander heritage — and our country's 250th anniversary — it is more important than ever that we uplift the untold stories of our communities. Did you know that Filipinos first arrived in the United States over 400 years ago, long before our country's founding? Or that over 120,000 Filipinos migrated to Hawaii to work on sugar plantations in the early 1900's? Want to learn more? Stop by the Russell Rotunda on Capitol Hill from May 11 to May 22 to check out “Stories from the Field: Filipino Migrant Workers in Hawaii," an exhibit I'm proud to present alongside the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center to celebrate the rich history and culture of AANHPI communities!
